Math Cab

Our students at CITYterm were in the city at least three times a week. To help them see how math might apply to their city experiences, I taught "Math Cab" on my first day with my students. By running through this activity, students were able to come up with mathematical reasons for taking a subway versus a cab.
Right: Sample slides from the Math Cab lesson.

Slides 1-3 set up the lesson, giving students all the information they will need to answer the question "cab or subway?"

Slide 4 is a screenshot of "Luigi," a co-worker I recruited to read the questions aloud while driving his "cab."

Slide 5 is a sample question that the students needed to work through mathematically.
